How We make A Neon Sign

Design

Neon Signage is converted into a CAD drawing usually in Adobe Illustrator, Flexi Sign or other signage specific design software. Our experience team of designers & can convert your ideas into a stunning neon light creation

Colour Selection

Once the design is created our team of neon benders will head to the range of neon samples to select the perfect colour choices for you project. With over 170 colours to choose from Neolite Neon have the largest range of colours in Australia with premium glass imported from Italy and the UK. Making sure we select the right colours, tone, and contrast for you, this will set your neon apart from the competition. From light pastels to bold & bright coloured glass we have the right colour choice for you.

pattern making

The neon patterns need to be transferred for the CAD design onto fire proof cloth, or patch cloth. These patterns are made in reverse and are either drawn by hand or by digital producing them on the patch cloth using a CAD plotter.

glass bending

Neon is glass tubing bend by skilled artisans in our Sydney Studio. Located in St Peters 20 minutes from Sydney’s CBD. Our skilled neon benders heat, shape and mould the glass to make the most beautiful neon works.

glass pumping

Once the glass is bent into shape. Electrodes are attached to the glass, and then the glass is attached to a vacuum pumping system. Which will heat the glass, add the neon, argon or blue gas to bring out the beautiful colours.

burning in

This is part of the process that is often missed in other commercial neon shops. The ‘burning in’ process is where we run the neon on a high output transformer to heat the electrodes up to a ‘burn in’ point to make them stable, last longer, excite the gases easier and vaporise the mercury.

loading

Once the neon is burnt in, we load it. This is where we select the right transformer for the neon. Correct loading can only be completed once the neon has been manufactured. The process is making sure that we have the transformers loaded at the optimum level so they are not over powered or under powered.

wiring, assembly
and installation

With the complexity of some neon projects making sure you have the right flow when wiring the neon is paramount. We produce a wiring diagram for most of our neon.
